Period Futures is a PROJECT That seeks to spark curiosity, conversation, and commitment in the menstrual health space to unlock positive #periodfutures

We do this across 3 core areas:

01 > PROVOCATE

We design and launch tangible provocations to help spark curiosity and conversation around what the future of periods might hold and push the boundaries of what’s possible for menstrual health innovation.

02 > AMPLIFY

We amplify the voices of diverse leaders and founders whose perspectives and work meaningfully intersects menstrual health—especially BIPOC and those identifying within the LGBTQ+ community. Got a Period Futurist in mind? Email us to nominate them!

03 > INCUBATE

For our next phase, we seek to bring together a community of designers, engineers, and creatives and provide the tools, inspiration, resources, and support they need to collaborate on impactful menstrual health work and enable positive period futures. More on this to come!

how it started

A growing list of startups, brands, NGOs, and advocates are paving the way for positive change across the menstrual health sector—from comic books and boardgames that educate youth about periods, to reengineered, leak-free tampons. Leading up to Menstrual Hygiene Day 2020, we embarked on a 3-week design sprint to imagine, “What if?”

Through an online survey and interviews, we gathered inspiration from dozens of experts, youth, designers, and advocates about the future of periods. We then stretched our ideas into provocative directions, pushing the boundaries (and sometimes our own comfort zones!) to explore unexpected possibilities.

The purpose of this work is not to predict the future x years from today, or suggest that our provocations are intended to resolve the vast complex challenges across menstruation. Rather, we simply hope to:

inspire more designers, engineers, and creatives to join the menstrual health movement and help enable positive #periodfutures.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our survey and interviews; shared feedback on our provocations; and pushed our thinking further. Special thank you to Roshi for the beautiful illustrations. Onwards!
